The initial idea for this project was to use magnets in the tips of the stellated octahedron and the intersections of the metal rings for either suspension or even a sort of weightless rotation. This turned out to be a bit too ambitious considering I'm working with found mirror and hot glue. So instead, I scrapped the magnets and went with simply mounting it on a skateboard bearing so it can freely rotate and not be bound to the base.

It's still a work in progress. I still need to find a more permanent solution to attach the metal rings and clean it up a bit. Google SketchUp was such a great tool for figuring out all the angles and dimensions. It allowed me to align the points of the star with the rings perfectly and base all the other measurements off that.

Ooooh. Stella Octangula. Such a beautiful shape. I'd love to see video of it rotating in the bearings. I like the rings suggesting orbits. Fantastic.

This would make a good how-to

Illuminated with a spot light when turning and you will have your own personal light show. Really cool
